Sometimes, the NFL Draft unfolds even better than anticipated.
This was certainly the case for the Chicago Bears and their general manager, Ryan Poles. After choosing quarterback Caleb Williams as the top overall pick, the Bears were next in line at ninth overall. Their hope was to snag one of the top three wide receivers, and they succeeded in landing Rome Odunze.
Securing Odunze was a nail-biter. With several teams in need of wide receivers, two of them picked before the Bears. As the draft approached the eighth pick with the Atlanta Falcons, the Bears grew increasingly optimistic about Odunze falling to them. However, what followed took them completely by surprise.
The expression on Poles' face was priceless, capturing the collective sentiment of everyone witnessing the selection.
