Similar to last week, the Chicago Bears are preparing to face a significant challenge in their upcoming game, particularly for their offensive line and quarterback Tyson Bagent. This challenge comes in the form of high-profile edge rushers, with a notable focus on Khalil Mack, a player very familiar to the Bears.

Khalil Mack, who departed from the Bears in a trade orchestrated by GM Ryan Poles in early March last year, is returning as part of the Los Angeles Chargers. Mack's presence in the building during his time with the Bears left a lasting impression. Bears coach Matt Eberflus acknowledged Mack's professionalism, consistent performance, and his reputation as a handful for opponents.

However, Mack's performance this season, while still impressive, hasn't been as dominant as his statistics might suggest. He is currently ranked 14th among edge rushers by Pro Football Focus, with his pass rush ranking at 16th. Despite seven sacks this season, six of them came in a single game against the Raiders, where he showcased a dominant performance.

The challenge facing the Bears is not limited to Mack alone, as the Chargers also have another formidable edge rusher in Joey Bosa, known for his consistent excellence. While Mack and the Chargers' defense present a significant threat, the Bears are focused on the task at hand, emphasizing the need for unity and attention to detail.

Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent recognizes the talent and impact of players like Mack and three-time Pro Bowl safety Derwin James on the Chargers' roster. He stresses the importance of being locked in and delivering their best performance on Sunday.

Despite the Chargers having a roster filled with star players, they have faced challenges in achieving consistent success under former Bears assistant Brandon Staley. The team's financial situation is also reminiscent of the Bears' cap situation before GM Ryan Pace's departure. However, the Chargers have the potential to perform well against the Bears, who are viewed as a less formidable opponent compared to some of the league's best teams.

The key challenges the Bears will face against the Chargers include:

1. OLB Khalil Mack: Mack is expected to line up against rookie Darnell Wright, who is dealing with a shoulder injury. Although Mack hasn't recorded a double-digit sack season since 2018, he remains a force to be reckoned with and often faces double teams.

2. QB Justin Herbert: Despite some fluctuations in performance, Herbert is considered one of the league's promising young quarterbacks. He has 10 TD passes and is known for his passing ability.

3. WR Keenan Allen: With Mike Williams sidelined due to injury, Keenan Allen has taken on a significant role in the Chargers' receiving corps. His athleticism, route-running, and intelligence make him a challenging target for defenses.

4. RB Austin Ekeler: Although his stats may not reflect his usual impact due to injury, Ekeler remains a versatile back who can contribute both as a rusher and receiver.

In preparation for their matchup against the Chargers, the Bears are aware of the formidable opponents they will face and are focused on executing their game plan effectively.
