Launching the NFL season with a splash of humor, Bears quarterback Justin Fields showcases his witty side in an ad campaign that playfully jests at the notion of the NFL being pre-written. Dubbed "You Can't Make This Stuff Up," the promotional series features a star-studded line-up, including actor Keegan-Michael Key, NFL icons Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Jason Kelce, Kirk Cousins, DK Metcalf, Dexter Lawrence, Ja'Marr Chase, Jalen Ramsey, and even a cameo by the Kelces' mom, Donna Kelce.
"It was an absolute blast joining this campaign. I'm genuinely humbled the NFL selected me alongside these league icons, and teaming up with Keegan was the cherry on top," Fields remarked.
Set against a fictional "NFL 104th season table read," Key, a die-hard Detroit Lions enthusiast, plays the role of a quirky director. The skit humorously recalls last season's unexpected moments, including the Kelce siblings' Super Bowl LVII rendezvous, a surprising halftime baby revelation, and the unforgettable 'Mr. Irrelevant's' triumphant Bay save.
However, the table read takes a comedic turn as NFL stars pitch their whimsical storylines for the upcoming season. From Fields playfully proposing a ban on sacks and visualizing his legs as literal wheels, to a shirtless Cousins advocating for a shirts versus skins match, the creative juices flow unrestrained. Culminating in a barrage of hilarity, the campaign, masterminded by 72andSunny, is a nod to the unpredictable and unparalleled entertainment value of the NFL.
Tim Ellis, the NFL's Chief Marketing Officer, commented, "This campaign is our light-hearted take on the wild, unscripted moments the NFL consistently delivers. We aimed for cheeky humor, channeling popular memes and cultural NFL narratives that often surpass fiction. We hope fans find it as entertaining as we do, and eagerly await the real-life dramas of this NFL season."
The campaign, set to roll out in phases over the season, will mark its debut during the Thursday Night Football preseason game on Amazon Prime Video, featuring the Philadelphia Eagles and the Indianapolis Colts. Fans can catch the fun across TV, digital, and social platforms.
Mark your calendars! The 2023 NFL narrative kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 7, with NFL Kickoff Weekend, sponsored by YouTube TV. The opening saga will see the Detroit Lions face off against the Kansas City Chiefs at 6 p.m. (CT) on NBC.
