Fields quickly pushed the envelope and made a push to be a starter, flashing in practice and coming in and gaining crucial snaps when Dalton went down. Fields admitted that not knowing if he was starting or not throughout the stretch was one of the biggest difficulties in his rookie season. On paper, Fields did not have the season in his rookie campaign anyone expected, but there is more than just the numbers to look into. He was placed in a league's worst scoring offense, with the protection and play-calling being the Achilles Heel.
In 2021 Fields had the league's highest passer rating of 138.5 on designed rollouts, there were just 19 of these called for Fields. He also was able to show he was a threat running the ball, rushing for 420 yards, and picking up 22 first downs on the ground.
So far in the off-season, there has been a familiar face almost living in the facility, and that is second-year Quarterback Justin Fields. Fields is already grabbing the attention of his recently drafted teammates also. Rookie receiver Velus Jones Jr commented that Fields' work ethic is «insane» and that this «motivates him to see his QB putting in the work».
Also, recently signed Fullback Khari Blasingame appeared on Adam Rank's podcast mentioning Fields' describing him as a « good teammate» and that he is «going to strap it up and he's gonna go to work».
As training camp approaches seeing Fields' build chemistry with his offense is important as Getsy's system is implemented.
