Matt Nagy speaks on him getting fired by the Bears
Matt Nagy's head coaching career with the Bears started with an NFL Coach of the Year award before plunging into the abyss when he was fired after 4 campaigns with the Chicago Bears following a horrendous 6-11 record in 2021.
Nagy was the offensive coordinator for the Chiefs before being hired in Chicago and it was announced that he will be returning to Andy Reid's staff as a quarterbacks coach and senior assistant a few months ago. Nagy met with the media on Thursday for the first time since being hired.
"I want to use my experiences in Chicago to help me be better here for our team here in Kansas City," Nagy said via the Chicago Sun-Times. "There's a little bit of humility you have to have to do this."
«You have highs and lows and you learn,» Nagy said. «You have so many hats you put on at that time. You learn a lot. You rely on those experiences that you went through. They're real-life experiences. I didn't have that when I went into my interview with Chicago. But I had four years worth of real-life experience of a lot of different situations � offense, defense, special teams. How to deal with players. How to deal with media.
«What it does is it really allows you to grow, but it puts things into perspective. In life, for me, a lot of my failures that I've had, I've tried to use to best of my ability to make me better.»

It was also a place where he would be working with familiar faces: quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes � who joined the team during the last season before Nagy departed � and Chad Henne, with whom he was familiar from an entirely different time.
«It's been fun to be back in that quarterback room with Pat,» he noted. «I remember watching Chad since he was a sophomore in high school. I actually coached against him. And he put up � as a sophomore � like 300 [yards] and four touchdowns and I was [like], �This kid's special.'
«Now here we are � however many years later � and I'm coaching him here at this level. And then to be in there with Shane [Buchele] and Dustin [Crum], to be back with Coach Reid, to be back with Eric Bieniemy [and] the rest of the coaches on this offensive staff... it's awesome. They're just good people who do things the right way. It's exciting for me. It's fun � and it's refreshing.»
