It has now come to light that Kadarius Toney had been lining up offsides multiple times during the game, as revealed in a damning video shared by ESPN's Dan Orlovsky on "NFL Live."
The concerning aspect of this situation is the lack of warning or penalty by game officials until late in the fourth quarter when the Chiefs executed an incredible touchdown play from Mahomes to Kelce to Toney.
Orlovsky pointed out that it's essential for players like Kadarius Toney to check with the official to ensure they are in the right position. If Toney had done so and still received a penalty, it would be an issue. However, he did not check with the official, and the Chiefs also should have noticed the problem since Toney consistently lined up in the same manner throughout the game.
Orlovsky reviewed every snap that Toney played during the game and found that not once did he check with the official. Moreover, the official never warned him to adjust his positioning, even though he lined up similarly several times throughout the game.
While the fourth-quarter call was indeed warranted as Toney was clearly offsides, the situation could have been prevented if a warning or penalty had been issued earlier in the game.
The Kansas City Chiefs are facing challenges this season, with another loss bringing their record to 8-5 and marking one of the first two-game losing streaks in the reigning MVP's seven-year NFL career. The remainder of their 2023 season holds various possibilities for the team.
