According to NFL analyst Dane Brugler, he reveals that teams around the NFL believe that the Bears will trade away QB Justin Fields and draft a QB with their first overall pick, likely drafting USC QB Caleb Williams:
In the article, Brugler explains how though Williams is a star and someone who is hard to pass up on, he also mentions how this is also a financial decision:
If the Bears do draft Williams, then this will reset the teams salary for their QB, as a rookie deal is nowhere near as much as a 5th or 6th year player. Drafting Williams will save the Bears a ton of money that they can use signing expensive free agents/re-signing their own players.
The team is still trying to make their decision, but this is not an easy choice. Do they stick with Fields and either draft a WR/trade their pick, or, do they trade Fields away and pick Williams to reset the salary and start fresh.
