Chicago may choose to test this trio in September and make necessary mid-season adjustments through free agency. However, they have an opportunity this offseason to acquire one of the few running backs who truly justifies their price in a position that has been increasingly devalued due to injury risks and the evolving nature of NFL offenses.
On Monday, April 3, Jake Rill from Bleacher Report proposed a trade scenario in which Chicago would send a second-round (No. 53) and a fifth-round (No. 148) pick to the Los Angeles Chargers for versatile running back Austin Ekeler.
Rill said that Chicago should trade for Ekeler even if they don't have a long-term contract immediately in place for him:
