Report: Before Trading for Montez Sweat, the Bears Attempted to Trade for Panthers 2x Pro Bowler
Before the trade deadline passed, several teams, including the Bears, reached out to the Panthers in regards to LB Brian Burns, as reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter:
As revealed by Schefter, the Chicago Bears were heavily interested in trading for Burns, but after being denied, they went on to trade for Commanders DE Montez Sweat:
Burns is currently in his 5th season of the NFL, and has already been seen as a threat. After being selected as the teams 1st round selection, Burns has been named to 2 Pro Bowls.
Similar to Sweat, Burns will be entering free agency once the 2023 season concludes, so the Bears were interested in trading for and extending him. Though many teams inquired about Burns, the Panthers turned them all away.
Looking at what the Bears gave up for Sweat, I am shocked to see the Panthers say no, as it is likely the Bears offered something quite similar.
