Report: Insider Reveals How Several 49ers' were 'Unaware' of new Rule that Led to Teams Loss

Ahead of the 2023 season, the NFL announced that they would be changing the playoff overtime rules.

Before the change, if a playoff game (or regular season game) went into overtime, then the first team to score a touchdown would win and the game would be over, and if they scored a field goal then the game continues.

Now, this new rule allows both teams to have the ball at least once, so even if a team scores a touchdown, then the other would have a chance at tying the game, or winning with a 2-point conversion.

When the Chiefs-49ers Super Bowl game went into overtime, the 49ers elected to receive the ball first, and ended up kicking a field goal on the drive. The Chiefs then went on to score a touchdown and win the Super Bowl.

After this devastating loss, several sources revealed that many 49ers players were unaware of this new rule, as if they were aware, then they would have elected to kick the ball instead:
