Jason Houghtaling's coaching career has primarily been in the collegiate ranks. He began coaching running backs at Wagner in 2006 and later worked with the offensive line at the same school. He briefly left for an offensive coordinator role at Williams but returned to Wagner as the offensive coordinator. After a short stint at Cornell as offensive coordinator, he again returned to Wagner, eventually becoming the head coach until 2019. Following his collegiate coaching journey, Houghtaling spent a year coaching the offensive line at Colgate.
Houghtaling entered the NFL coaching scene with the Tennessee Titans, where he initially served as an assistant offensive line coach in 2021. By 2023, he had assumed the role of the sole offensive line coach. During his tenure, the Titans' offensive line played a crucial role in supporting star running back Derrick Henry. However, towards the end of the 2023 regular season, the Titans' offensive line struggled, ranking last in overall performance. After a game in which they gave up seven sacks to the Houston Texans, the Titans decided to part ways with Houghtaling.
As the offseason progresses, the Chicago Bears are finalizing their coaching staff, allowing Matt Eberflus to begin his work in preparing for the upcoming season.
