Linebacker Buddy Johnson, who had been injured, was waived by the team. In his place, the Bears signed linebacker Davion Taylor. Taylor, a former third-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020, had tried out at Halas Hall earlier in the week. He had played in 21 games as a WILL linebacker for the Eagles between 2020-21 and spent the 2022 season on the practice squad.
Interestingly, Taylor had previously played behind T.J. Edwards, another new addition to the Bears' linebacker corps, during his time in Philadelphia.
The signing of Taylor is part of a broader overhaul of the linebacker position by the Bears this offseason. The team had already added T.J. Edwards and T.J. Edmunds to the roster. They also have Jack Sanborn and rookie Noah Sewell, as well as recently-signed linebackers Mykal Walker and Dylan Cole, among others. This move adds even more depth to the position for the team.
