The Bears hired Richard Hightower as their Special Teams coordinator
Richard Hightower spent the past five years as the San Fransisco 49ers' special teams' coordinator. He will be in the same position for the Chicago Bears. Hightower has over 15 years of experience in the NFL with the Niners, the Houston Texans, and the Washington Football Team. He was also a part of the Bears coaching staff back in 2016 under coach John Fox. He served as an assistant special teams coordinator at the time. Hightower will replace former Bears' special teams coordinator Chris Tabor who left for the Caroline Panthers.
The Niners had some struggles on special teams this year but they also made some incredible plays. The biggest of them was the blocked punt in the NFC divisional game vs the Green Bay Packers that pretty much won the game for the Niners. The 49ers were also one of the best kicking teams in the NFL last season with former Bears' kicker Robbie Gould having a great season. He lead the NFL in made field goals.
This is a huge move for new Chicago's head coach Matt Eberflus. This was the last major coaching spot that needed to be filled for the Bears. The Bears now have all of their coordinator spot for the 2022 season.
