In week 3 of the 2020 season, Cohen suffered a torn ACL. He has not touched the field since that day. It has been over 16 months since his injury. For a player that has a game that revolves around quickness and speed, a long absence like that must mean bad news.
It is time to cut ties with Cohen
Although he had some amazing moments in Chicago, you have to believe that the best decision at this point is really to let Tarik Cohen go. He carries a cap hit of $5,75 million in 2022. With the emergence of Khalil Herbert last season, his departure would not be such a big deal. Herbert was also able to fill in for some of the return duties that Cohen had in prior years.
Cohen is still fairly young (26 years old) but we all know that a running back's career can be shortened by injuries and over-usage. I think the Bears need to cut him in order to save some money and make space for some potential big free agency signings. With over 30 million in cap space, Ryan Poles will be able to throw some bullets and hopefully sign some solid players to boost up the roster for next season.
