Football enthusiasts empathized with C.J. Stroud after the Ohio State quarterback revealed how some Buckeyes fans reacted to the team's struggles during the previous season.
Stroud had a poor finish to the year, which resulted in the team's elimination from the Big Ten championship race following a severe defeat against Michigan. During an interview with the Columbus Dispatch, the quarterback disclosed that fans sent him money via Venmo just so they could criticize him. As Stroud is not active on social media during the college football season, it wasn't easy for fans to get a message to him. However, they utilized the feature to add a note when sending money to the player.
To be fair, this approach is quite resourceful, although it comes at a cost. Several fans offered support to the player after hearing about this incident.
"Have to ignore some people; they are not your true fans. Yes, we were devastated by our loss, but you come back stronger. You gave us your all, and SOME OF US APPRECIATED YOU," one commenter wrote.
"People are ridiculous," another fan added. "Venmo DMs to tell CJ Stroud to play better are absolutely insane."
Well, at least he received some money for the criticism. If this abuse had come via platforms like Facebook or Instagram, he wouldn't have received anything else.
