Something tells me I shouldn't touch this topic but I honestly can't help myself, so let's argue. Here are my top five Bears Draft picks of all time. Also, this list is based on career production, so keep that in mind.
5. Devin Hester
Drafted in the second round of the 2006 Draft fans were a little confused about why we got a KR in the second round. Devin is the all-time leader in punt returns for touchdowns with 12, as well as five kick returns for touchdowns. He returned two kicks and three punts for touchdowns in 2006. In one of my favorite Bears moments, Hester returned the opening kick of the Superbowl against the Colts in 2006. You have to give him his props, he's not only one of my top five drafts but one of my top five players in Bears history.
4. Olin Kreutz
Drafted in 1998 in the third round, Olin dominated the Chicago line as the center for 12 seasons. He had six pro bowls starting in 183 games and was named First-Team All-Pro in 2006. The stability and leadership he brought to the line make him a Bears legend in his own right. It was weird seeing someone else under center when he left.
3. Mark Bortz
Drafted in 1983 out of the third round Bortz started 155 games for the Bears from 1983 to 1994 getting to two pro bowls as well as a Super Bowl win with the 85 Bears. That season the Bears combined for 2,761 yards rushing, and the year before 2,974. He switched from defensive tackle in college and held down the Bears line till 1994.
3. Mike Singletary
A certified all-time great, Mike was drafted in the second round of the 1981 NFL Draft. As the leader of the 1985 Bears defense and the No. 57 best player in the history of the league it's safe to say he deserves to be on this list. He has an unofficial 1.488 career tackles averaging out to 124 tackles per season. He spent 12 years with Chicago as a 10-time pro bowler, Super Bowl winner, and now Hall of Famer.
2. Bill George
1951 was a special year for football history when Bill George was drafted by the Bears in the second round of the draft. Bill just so happens to be the first middle linebacker in the history of the NFL. The original monster of the midway saw that he could better defend the pass by dropping back into coverage at the start of the play which led to the creation of not just the position but of the 4-3 defense. He was an 8-time pro bowler and a true football legend.
1. Richard Dent
In 1983 the Bears drafted Richard Dent in the eighth round of the NFL Draft. Yes, you read correctly the eighth. Dent played for the Bears for 10 seasons in which he dealt out 137.5 sacks tied for seventh all-time. From 1984 to 1985 he had 34.5 sacks alone. He went to four pro bowls, won a Super Bowl, and became the MVP of said Super Bowl. In which he had 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He is now rightfully in the Hall of Fame and I can comfortably say he is Chicago's best draft pick of all time.
So what do you think? Who is the best Bears draft pick of all time?
