Believe it or not, this might not be the worst thing for the Bears. There are actually some benefits to letting the old dinosaur graze for one more year.
For one thing, it gives the Bears a chance for a bit of revenge before he is gone for good. It would be so sweet for us to go 2-0 against Rodgers next year, even if it's against him in his golden years. After last year's "own you" comments, I've been dying for another game.
Another plus is that Rodgers returning indicates strongly that Love is not the future, this means the struggle for a QB for Green Bay post-Rodgers could be pretty rough.
One of the main reasons Green Bay wants to move on from him is his salary; the longer the Packers hold onto Rodgers, the longer they remain in a bad cap situation. This allows their resources and talent to drain while raking in one more wild card appearance to save face.
And Lastly, it keeps him away from other QB-hungry teams. With Brady retiring, it's really only Carr and Rodgers in the market for ready-to-go veterans. Keeping Rodgers on a sinking ship vs a contender-ready team is critical to not meeting him again in the playoffs, in case the stars align for Chicago.
I'm happy to see Aaron go, he's tortured me for most of my life, but maybe one more go isn't the worst thing or the NFC North going into 2023.
