The last time the Bears made a trade in exchange for a 2nd-rounder, was when they traded for former Steelers WR Chase Claypool in 2022.
If you follow the Bears, or even just the NFL, you know how bad this trade ended up being for the Bears. Claypool looked like a true bust, and the team traded him away last month.
When the Sweat trade was announced, fans took to Twitter to share their worries, and comparison of Claypool came about:
Though these two share some similarities with the trade scenario, they are two very different players.
When the Bears traded for Claypool, he was already struggling in Pittsburg. The Bears giving them a 2nd-rounder was just a big mistake right away. But when it comes to the Sweat trade, there is a big difference.
Though a 2nd-rounder is a big loss, Sweat has proved himself to be worth that. He is currently being praised on his performances, and is surely becoming one of the top defensive ends in the NFL. He is no where near struggling right now, so the Bears got him at a good time. He has stayed healthy this far in his career, and his teammates seem to like him.
The Claypool trade was never going to work out, but I have high hopes for the Sweat trade.
