While it might seem like an improbable scenario, multiple NFL insiders suggest that the Denver Broncos, led by head coach Sean Payton, are contemplating a bold move to trade for the No. 1 overall pick.

Both Cecil Lammey of DenverSports.com and Tony Pauline of Sportskeedia have reported the Broncos' interest in trading up to secure a quarterback in the draft.

Lammey wrote on X, "There is a belief by many in the scouting community that Sean Payton has something cooking for the early portion of the #NFLDraft. The NFL thinks Payton is going to move up, no matter what. Don't ask about compensation. Some think it won't matter because SP won't wait on a quarterback. He wants his guy NOW."

ESPN's Bill Barnwell also proposed a trade scenario that he believes could persuade the Bears to part with the first pick, involving Patrick Surtain II, the 12th overall pick in the first round this year, and 2025 second- and third-round picks.

Barnwell acknowledged the potential challenges of paying two young cornerbacks top salaries, given that Jaylon Johnson is coming off an exceptional year and is due for a new contract. Nonetheless, he suggested that the Bears' defensive-minded head coach, Matt Eberflus, might find this option highly appealing.

While the reports of the Broncos' desire to move up are intriguing, the chances of such a significant trade happening remain slim. Pauline mentioned that the Broncos are interested in acquiring one of the top quarterbacks in the draft, such as Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels. However, the enormous cost associated with such a move makes it highly unlikely.

The Bears' cornerback group is already well-stocked with talent, including Tyrique Stevenson and Kyler Gordon. Stevenson, in particular, showed promising improvement during his rookie campaign, making it unlikely that the Bears would seek to add another high-priced cornerback to the mix.

While the notion of adding a player of Surtain's caliber is intriguing, the practicality of such a move for the Bears seems limited given their current cornerback roster.
