Adam Schefter has reported that the Kansas City Chiefs have promoted former Bears' HC Matt Nagy to offensive coordinator.

It is expected that Nagy will take over former coordinator Eric Bieniemy's role as offensive coordinator now that the Washington Commanders have hired Bieniemy for the same position. But that's not all. The former Chicago Bears coach may eventually replace Reid as Chiefs head coach if a report from NFL reporter Aaron Wilson suggests anything.

"Nagy is a top candidate to eventually replace Andy Reid, per sources. Succession plan likely in next 3 years," Aaron Wilson tweeted.

Nagy had less-than-desirable results with Chicago, to say the least. While the 2018 NFL Coach of the Year led the Bears to the postseason, hardly any offensive growth was ever shown. Picking Mitchell Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes probably contributed to a lot of that lack of success. However, Bears fans were often frustrated by Nagy and his coaching/personnel decisions, including his utilization of first-round pick Justin Fields.

Nevertheless, all eyes will now be on the next few years to see if this Andy Reid succession plan plays out as speculated.

Matt Nagy's tenure as the head coach of the Chicago Bears was a mixed bag. He was hired in 2018 after spending five years as an assistant coach with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he worked under head coach Andy Reid. Nagy was seen as a promising young coach who could help turn the Bears around after several disappointing seasons.

In his first year as head coach, Nagy led the Bears to a 12-4 record and their first playoff appearance since 2010. He was named the NFL Coach of the Year for his efforts. However, the Bears lost in the Wild Card round of the playoffs to the Philadelphia Eagles in a game that was marred by a missed field goal by Chicago kicker Cody Parkey.

In 2019, the Bears finished with an 8-8 record and missed the playoffs. The offense struggled for much of the season, and Nagy's decision to switch quarterbacks midway through the year was criticized by fans and analysts alike.

The 2020 season was another disappointment for the Bears, as they finished with an 8-8 record and missed the playoffs again. The offense continued to struggle, and Nagy faced questions about his future with the team.

One of the biggest criticisms of Nagy's tenure with the Bears was his handling of the quarterback position. He and then GM Ryan Pace chose to draft Mitchell Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson in the 2017 NFL Draft, a decision that has been widely criticized in hindsight. Nagy also struggled to get the most out of Trubisky during his time with the Bears, and the team eventually moved on from him.

Despite the ups and downs of his tenure with the Bears, Nagy is still regarded as a promising young coach by many in the NFL.
