While Tyson Bagent showcased his skills against the Raiders last Sunday, it's worth noting that he had some limitations in his performance.

According to the latest NextGenStats data, Bagent's average air yards per attempt on Sunday was a mere 2.1 yards, marking the shortest distance per attempt by any qualified quarterback in a single game this season. Bagent stepped in for Justin Fields, who was sidelined due to a thumb injury, and the Bears' coaching staff seemed to have a conservative approach with their rookie quarterback. This cautious approach was likely due to Bagent's relative inexperience in the NFL and the team's lack of confidence in his ability to throw deep passes effectively.

Bagent attempted 29 passes on Sunday, averaging just 2.1 yards per attempt, as the statistics reveal. While he completed 21 of those passes for a total of 162 yards, his yards per completion still remained quite low at approximately 7.7 yards.

This cautious strategy makes sense considering Bagent's background as an undrafted rookie from Division II, where he was expected to be closely monitored. The Bears understandably refrained from unleashing complex deep throws from their playbook, as Bagent's arm strength and accuracy downfield were not seen as strong suits.

A clear example of this conservative approach was evident when the Bears substituted Bagent with Nathan Peterman for a Hail Mary attempt at the end of the first half on Sunday. Bagent's previous deep ball attempt to DJ Moore against the Minnesota Vikings fell significantly short, further underscoring the team's hesitance to test his capabilities in crucial situations.

Despite these limitations, the Bears did put their faith in their running back room, with D'Onta Foreman and Darrynton Evans receiving a substantial workload during Sunday's game, even in the absence of Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson due to injuries. Foreman rushed for an impressive 89 yards and scored three total touchdowns, while Evans contributed with 48 rushing yards.

As the Bears prepare to face the Chargers on Sunday night, it's likely that they will continue to employ a conservative game plan for Bagent, focusing on his strengths while minimizing potential risks.
