Matt Eberflus of the Bears makes a significant statement regarding Justin Fields and Tyson Bagent.
It appears that Tyson Bagent, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, received coaching assistance from the injured starting quarterback, Justin Fields, both before and during the game in which the undrafted rookie led the Bears to an impressive 30-12 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus praised Fields' support, saying, "He was great during the week, working with Tyson, helping him understand the concepts and providing guidance during practice." Eberflus explained that Fields worked with Bagent before the game, helping him prepare for the first 15 plays and assisting him during the game, offering insights into the defense's strategies. Eberflus commended Fields' character and dedication, stating, "That just shows you the kind of person he is."
Fields was sidelined due to a dislocated right thumb and witnessed Bagent's successful performance in his first NFL start, completing 21 of 29 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown. Bagent is expected to maintain his position as the starting quarterback for the 2-5 Bears until the end of October, as Fields is doubtful for the upcoming "Sunday Night Football" matchup against the 2-4 Los Angeles Chargers.
However, fans should not expect Bagent to be Chicago's QB1 for the entire season. Coach Eberflus made it clear that a healthy Fields remains their starting quarterback, both after Sunday's victory and in his conversation with Albert Breer. Eberflus reiterated, "Justin's our starter," and praised Bagent's performance as a credit to him and the entire offensive staff.
