The NFL free agency pool still has a jewel sparkling in its depths - 28-year-old pass rusher, Yannick Ngakoue. Ngakoue, renowned for his consistency with eight or more sacks each season since his draft in 2016, surprisingly, still remains on the market. The rumour mill suggests he's been holding out for a multi-year contract, perhaps as a result of his nomadic experience with five teams since 2019. Add to that his previous preference to join a winning side after spending two years in underperforming squads, and it seemed unlikely he'd consider the Chicago Bears, fresh off a 3-14 season.

However, hope isn't lost for Bears fans, as Ngakoue may have dropped a hint during his recent appearance on The Jim Rome Show. When asked about his ideal landing spot, Ngakoue seemed to broaden his horizons:

"ANY TEAM IN THE NFL IS AN IDEAL LANDING SPOT FOR ME. IT'S A BLESSING TO BE ABLE TO WORK ANY JOB IN THE NFL. BEING ABLE TO GO AND PRACTICE WITH A TEAM, GO THROUGH WALK-THROUGHS, GO THROUGH FILM STUDY, IT'S A BLESSING. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT ORGANIZATION IN PARTICULAR."

This offers a glimmer of hope for the Bears in their pursuit of Ngakoue. Despite his reputation as a pass-rush specialist who might not be the complete package, he could be the puzzle piece the Bears need. The Bears have shored up their edge defense against the run with the addition of talents like DeMarcus Walker and Rasheem Green. Adding Ngakoue into the mix would complete the picture, offering a speed rusher capable of delivering 8-10 sacks a season.

The Chicago Bears' pitch to Ngakoue has a lot going for it: a clear starting spot due to their need at the position, more cap space than any other team, and a familiar face on the coaching staff. The team's defensive line coach, Travis Smith, worked with Ngakoue during his stint with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021. As long as Ngakoue's financial demands don't sky-rocket, this partnership could be the perfect match for both sides.
